The launch of the Spring Summer 2021 collection is the occurrence which has been elected to host the return to real-life events for SUNNEI and its first-time attendance as part of the Women Fashion Week calendar.
This collection comes as the complementary side of SUNNEI CANVAS presented during Milan Digital Fashion Week in July.
For the second part of their Spring Summer 2021 collection, Simone Rizzo and Loris Messina have once again stepped back from the typical fashion schemes, giving space to their instinct and aesthetics rather than prioritizing any commercial strategy.
The founders’ stream of consciousness led to unexpected places resulting into a collection inspired by dream-like mystical figures. Long-distance silhouettes with no face nor gender and impossible to categorize under any kind of label.
A mysterious atmosphere that collides and yet blends with SUNNEI’s pop influences in the Spring Summer 2021 collection.
Such a movie-like imaginary theme could not help but find its proper expression in a show. At a time when an event looked nothing more than a chimera, SUNNEI took courage and found a way to make this show happen, as an inspirational act which also expresses this season’s instinct-driven approach.
Courage and foolishness is what was needed to approach this year. This event expresses the brand’s ability to give a positive sign besides the need to present the collection.
A laid-back and relaxing moment is aimed to make physical and digital guests embrace the brand’s spirit. While the sun is slowly going down, the brand invites everyone to experience a cathartic moment and enjoy pure beauty and creativity as a getaway from this year’s happenings.
The surreal atmosphere resulting from the exceptional set inside the Lido di Milano’s empty swimming pool is enhanced by the play of luminescence and darkness which comes from the use of lights that stretch and distort the audience's natural shadows.
Guests will be part of something bigger than what they could ever imagine thanks to a project with Walt-Disney-like controversial features inspired by all of those drawings which fill teenagers’ school diaries.
After hazarding with SUNNEI CANVAS’ 3-D technology, the brand now continues pushing its boundaries presenting during Women Fashion Week with a line-up in which the womenswear looks exceed the menswear ones for the first time.
This experimental approach also permeates the collection which plays with shapes, fabrics and colors more than ever.
This Spring Summer 2021 palette combines light nuances - ranging from white to brown - with dark tones - including blue, black and various shades of bordeaux - and SUNNEI’s essential bold colors - such as vivid yellow, green, orange, fuchsia and electric blue.
Color-block textiles, such as gabardine, are employed to give importance to the outline of the garments as well as technical fabrics like neoprene and nylon.
The signature directness of SUNNEI is interpreted by the use of denim with raw edges and canvas fabrics which are made special by a sprayed-paint effect.
New territories have been explored in knitwear experimenting different types of stitches that go from stiff and tight to soft and furry results.
The attention to details in the ready-to-wear pieces did not preclude a revolution in the brand’s approach to its accessories’ lines which have now been enriched by new models in footwear, jewels and bags.
Italian singer Raf is depicted as a print on some Spring Summer 2021 pieces, ironizing on a name that has been on everyone’s lips during this period.
This show in particular is for SUNNEI much more than an event to present its new collection: it is rather a signal of re-birth and a new beginning for the brand.
Re-birth for being the first physical gathering after a long period of isolation.
New beginnings as those expressed by SUNNEI’s recent communion with Vanguard’s Group which make of this event the last show as an independent label.
A new chapter also for the freshly inaugurated brand’s headquarter that has taken the name of Palazzina Sunnei and fresh start in terms of a brand-new team of collaborators in the making of the show.
These changes fueled the positive spirit that has always characterized the label and now, more than ever, it is meaningful to share these good vibes with SUNNEI’s community. As a brand from Milan with an international spirit, this has been translated to the coordination physical event with a limited number of guests in Milan which is simultaneously live-streamed on sunnei.it to involve the brand’s worldwide network.
A show which has come together thanks to the merge of the energies and forces of a harmonious group. The special synergy characterizing the team and their relationship with founders Loris Messina and Simone Rizzo is tangible in all facets of the project and it is to be considered as the real strength of the brand.
This is the day when SUNNEI celebrates the light after the darkness that the brand has regarded as an opportunity to take a breath and focus on what the label should stand for.
Now it is time to start fresh and today SUNNEI will make the best out this year.

The so-called Lido di Milano is an area inaugurated in the 1920s as a place where the Milanese community could experience the atmosphere of seaside locations. An ambitious project curated by engineers Cesare Marescotti and Cadario and architect Armando Titta which included the construction of a series of pools with irregular shapes. The final outcome consisted of a pool equipped with diving boards, small boats and fake jetties. The surreal feel was enhanced by the sand surrounding the pool, the use of lamppost in Venetian style and the presence of a carnival. The effect was even too surreal and innovative for the time also because men and women could get access simultaneously. As a consequence, the municipality of Milan intervened cutting all frivolities and transforming it into a sports area which included a field for bowl games and a skating area. These new traits provided a great success to the Lido di Milano that continues to today.
The soundtrack of the show has been specifically composed in support of the sensation of alienation that wants to be transferred to the audience. Longtime friend and collaborator Tocci produced a symphony whose futuristic notes will transport SUNNEI’s community to outer planets in a climax which begins reproducing the digital version of fireworks sounds.
