EYES ARE OPEN BUT WE ARE NOT TRULY LOOKING - OR LOOKING ENOUGH. WE ARE MASTERS OF SEPARATING MIND AND BODY, OLYMPIC TALENTS AT BARELY SCRATCHING THE SURFACE.

Sooner or later in life, everyone wishes they had a superpower, don’t we all? And in this industry, a mind-reading vending machine would certainly have the longest queue. How many thoughts never get the chance to be expressed, how many others get distorted on their journey from mind to mouth? Take models. Who ever cares about what they think? This season, we are giving their reflections some space by using them as the soundtrack of the show. One model, one thought, counting as many personalities as the looks – from those of someone at their first runway to the one who is heartbroken or the guy who is singing in his head. It’s the typical recipe of a SUNNEI show: start from the traditional elements of a runway and exploit one of them - the soundtrack - to achieve a new depth, creating a new layer of madness. It’s always about breaking down walls to explore unexpected types of interactions. A 360-degree experience where location, looks, guests, models, and sound are ingredients to create an impression.
One by one, models and their thoughts enter the scene, and their walk is not on a catwalk but on the gigantic rug that covers the surface of the whole floor. A few of them wear special pieces, crafted from striped rug fabric. These garments are not stitched; they only feature snap buttons so when unbuttoned they take a two-dimensional form returning to their original rug stage. If you lay them down, you realize that their shapes resemble those of some animals: a koala, a frog, a star, a butterfly, and a hippo. But it’s how these animals would look in a SUNNEI world.
This isn’t just any rug; it features colorful stripes - surely not a mere coincidence. Thanks to cc-tapis’ expertise in the craft of rug-making, the made- in-milan rug liquifies preconceived notions of circularity and the boundaries between a carpet or a piece of clothing. The rest of the collection is just the usual SUNNEI wardrobe, but better. It’s a tale of textured knits, meticulously crafted fringes, satin garments with daring cut-outs, flowing asymmetrically with panels cascading in a play of drapery. Think oversize duvet-inspired puffer jackets, offering the comfort akin to a blanket, complete with interchangeable covers.
A butterfly-shaped rug ate a Labauletto Bag and that’s how the Borsa Farfalla came to life. Meanwhile, other bags underwent a transformative journey through a shrinking machine, emerging not just smaller but with side effects like neon spikes and scratches. And just like a virus, the neon spikes also infected jewelry, crafted from the same material as the signature Rubberized Earrings but employing a novel technique. Imagine metallic covers resembling ears, adorned with azure spikes and spheres, transforming the wearer into an otherworldly being from a SUNNEI planet. Footwear embarked on a retreat into earthy hues, reflected in its color palette. Material experimentation on existing shoe styles triumphed over brand-new silhouettes, exemplified by the Marg: unisex Mary Jane sabots featuring debossed leather with an ethereal, cloud-like texture.
AND WHAT WAS WHAT? I MEAN, ON THE RUNWAY, SOMEONE WAS WEARING SHOE COVERS AND THE TEXT ON IT WAS “SUNNEI X CAMPER - JUNE 2024”.
Instead of a traditional soundtrack, the show featured sentences reflecting the thoughts of the models.
31 looks, 31 different personalities.
When a collaboration is not just a marketing strategy but a journey together, it fuels the ambition to reach the most special result to new heights. SUNNEI and cc-tapis: two Milanese projects sharing a creative approach where a fusion of multiple disciplines meets the value of craftsmanship. The story of the people behind these two companies is one of friendship, mutual respect, and a long-time ambition to collaborate, sooner or later.
From here, the idea of joining forces and cooperating on a special project that could blend design with fashion emerged.
Everything started with imagining a show where models would walk on a rug of majestic proportions. And that is exactly what happened: on the 23rd of February 2024, the SUNNEI show, held at cc-tapis’ headquarters, took place on a 72 sqm striped carpet.
Moreover, the synthesis of these two brands' identities has also manifested in items made from carpet fabric, included within the collection. Thanks to cc-tapis' expertise in the craft of rug-making, the made-in-Milan rug dissolves preconceived notions of circularity and blurs the boundaries between a carpet and a piece of clothing. Born to be regenerated, the rug becomes more than an ephemeral part of the show, expressing its own thoughts and provoking us to question the usage of materials.
At the SUNNEI FW24 show, several models were spotted holding shoes concealed by vibrant covers adorned with the text "SUNNEI CAMPER, JUNE 2024".
The show has been hailed as the perfect platform to unveil this upcoming collaboration, slated to unfold as a long-term project in two stages. The first one will witness the launch of a shoe style in June 2024, followed by the introduction of a second new model to the market in 2025.
This collaborative journey commenced at CAMPER’s headquarters in Inca, where SUNNEI’s creative team had the opportunity to delve into CAMPER’s extensive archives, drawing inspiration from a discontinued style.
This served as the foundation for the creation of a brand-new model that seamlessly blends SUNNEI and CAMPER aesthetic features and introducing a playful yet daring component, which indeed aligns with the identity of both the Italian and Spanish label.
